Sean Rainey - One Penny Pendant - Tiny Embelishments

This new season recycled coin pendant consists of a NZ one penny coin featuring our beautiful Tui bird. Tiny embellishments on the coin consist of a sweet gold honeybee and silver flower, making this pendant mixed metal, so it is easy to wear with most other jewellery.

The pendant is 30mm at its widest point and the chain is 60cm (can be lengthened to 75cm FOC). The chain has a brass base, plated in gold. The bee is also made from solid brass and plated with 18K gold.  The flower is also made from brass and plated with silver.  The coin is a genuine NZ vintage.

About the Artist: Sean has been making recycled jewellery for well over a decade.  As a child, he used to love building little car and plane models, and later on, he developed a penchant for gadgets.  This passion has now flowed into jewellery making.

Artistic Process:  Sean rescues found objects that would have been otherwise discarded and gives them new life as jewellery pieces.  Recycled components are usually in the form of intricate vintage timepieces and nostalgic coins from Aotearoa, but he has also used military buttons, metal milk tokens and even old bullets to give them a better life.  He uses his silversmithing skills to combine lovely recycled elements with  nature- themed charms and embellishments and finishes each piece by hand.
