Gold and silver stars feature on a recycled half crown coin from Aotearoa. These stars represent a slice of Matariki, marking Māori New Year which falls on July 10 this year. The pendant is strung on a 60cm chain.
The chain is made from brass, plated with silver. Stars are also made from brass and plated in platinum or gold. The coin is a genuine vintage NZ coin.
About the Artist: Sean has been making recycled jewellery for well over a decade. As a child, he used to love building little car and plane models, and later on, he developed a penchant for gadgets. This passion has now flowed into jewellery making.
Artistic Process: Sean rescues found objects that would have been otherwise discarded and gives them new life as jewellery pieces. Recycled components are usually in the form of intricate vintage timepieces and nostalgic coins from Aotearoa, but he has also used military buttons, metal milk tokens and even old bullets to give them a better life. He uses his silversmithing skills to combine lovely recycled elements with nature- themed charms and embellishments and finishes each piece by hand.
